The 10th International Conference on Applied Phycology & the 2nd Congress of International Society of Applied Phycology
The conference, held in Kunming, China from the 24th to the 28th of July 2005 and sponsored by the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the International Society for Applied Phycology (ISAP) with support from other organizations
The objective of the conference was to provide an international forum for the largest and most comprehensive exchange of scientific information on the latest progress of research and development in the algal biotechnology, applied phycology and related fields and to promote mutual interactions and understanding among participants.
During four days of intensive activities, the international conference supported nine keynote lectures and highlighted more than 100 research topics in both the oral and poster sessions. Relevant and current issues on applied phycology were treated in parallel sessions under five major categories. Dr. Amha Belay, Scientific Director for Earthrise® Nutritionals, was honored with a request to present a discussion entitled "Microalgae and Health: Spirulina (Arthrospira) as a case in point".
Towards the end of this meeting, the general assembly voted to elect new membership for the Executive Committee. Dr. Amha Belay, who is a founding member of this society, was re-elected for the third time, extending his service to nine years. "This is a great personal achievement and a demonstration of Earthrise’s commitment to advance algal biotechnology." Says Dr. Belay.
